Vendor Flex (VF, also written VFlex) is an Amazon program for high-volume vendors in which Amazon runs a dedicated operational area inside the vendor’s own warehouse, with Amazon staff picking, packing, and shipping Amazon orders on Amazon’s systems.
What it is
Vendor Flex brings your warehouse into Amazon’s logistics network. Amazon sets aside a portion of your building for Amazon orders only, staffs it with its own people, and runs the inventory, order flow, and compliance for that area on its own systems. Because those orders ship from your building, you cut the freight of moving goods into Amazon’s network.
Only high-volume vendors are eligible, and the program suits bulky, oversized, or fast-moving products that run into fulfillment center (FC) capacity limits.
Where it lives in Vendor Central
Public descriptions of Vendor Flex treat it entirely as a warehouse arrangement, with Amazon’s systems managing the dedicated area, and none of them point to a Vendor Central report, page, or setting for it. If you’re in the program or being considered for it, ask your Amazon contact what, if anything, your account will show for it.
Not to be confused with
- Direct Fulfillment. Both programs keep fulfillment inside your building, but the staffing is reversed. Under Direct Fulfillment, your own team picks, packs, and ships each customer order from your warehouse, while under Vendor Flex, Amazon’s staff do that work in the area Amazon runs.
- Seller Flex. This is a Seller Central program for third-party sellers. Some articles that rank for “Vendor Flex” actually describe Seller Flex, with orders processed through Seller Central, and those details don’t apply to a 1P vendor.
- Warehouse jobs. If you searched the term looking for work at Amazon, this entry won’t help; it covers the program from the vendor’s side.
Why it matters to a vendor
Vendor Flex changes how you plan your own building. Capacity utilization decides whether the arrangement pays off, and the levers behind it are the assortment you place in the Amazon area, the shifts it runs, the equipment it needs, and the floor space you give up. Amazon also expects strict operational standards, including consistent inventory accuracy and the space allocation you agreed to.
The reported upside is lower transportation and freight costs, faster replenishment, and better in-stock rates. Sources also list fewer shortage claims and chargebacks among the benefits, which matters because Amazon deducts both from your remittance.
